Workers remain off the job at Nestle Jamaica

Operations at Nestle Jamaica in Bog Walk, St. Catherine, are still being affected ted by a workers' strike. The 130 employees walked off the job Tuesday afternoon to protest against a decision by the company not to pay union delegates for the hours they were away from the plant to attend a recent meeting at the Ministry of Labour.

The National Workers' Union (NWU) has expressed outrage at the decision. Up to late Tuesday night the union said it had not been advised of a meeting to resolve the dispute and the workers will therefore remain off the job.

The NWU said it was prepared to take the issue to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal.
