2 year labour agreement for sugar workers
After weeks of negotiations, unions representing the country's sugar workers have arrived at a new two year collective labour agreement. The agreement follows a marathon meeting at the Ministry of Labour which ended just after 2 o' clock Wednesday morning. The joint negotiations involved representatives of the National Workers Union, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, the University and Allied Workers Union and the Sugar Producers Federation. NWU President Vincent Morrison says the agreement which covers more than four thousand field and factory workers, is retroactive to the start of the sugar crop in December last year. The parties will again meet Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Ministry of Labour where the agreement will be formally signed.
