Kingston’s Mayor fires back at OCG over alleged fraud at the KSAC
Desmond McKenzie, the Mayor of Kingston, fired back at the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) Wednesday over claims of alleged corruption and impropriety involving a fake contractor, who is reportedly linked to three sitting Councillors of the People's National Party.
In a three page statement to the media Wednesday afternoon, the KSAC Chairman denied any responsibility for the alleged corruption involving what the OCG described as a fake contractor acting as a front for the PNP Councillors, and a staff member of the Corporation's Roads and Works Division.
At the same time Mayor McKenzie is pointing fingers at the OCG for the current fiasco.
According to Mayor McKenzie it was totally unfair and disingenuous to try and place blame on the KSAC for the alleged acts of fraud perpetrated by the so called "fake contractor'.
This he claims, is after it was borne out that the same individual linked to the activities is listed on the National Contracts Commission website as a registered contractor.
The list includes several female contractors employed by the KSAC and who have undertaken works for the Corporation. Mayor McKenzie also added that all KSAC contracts are awarded to contractors duly registered by the NCC and listed by the OCG.
He also noted that all contracts are done to specification and that the works are checked by KSAC officers prior to final payment.
The KSAC Chairman is adamant that the criticisms being aired publicly against the Corporation on the matter are grossly unfair and clearly unwarranted.
