PATH problems
Officials of PATH are lamenting that dishonest Jamaicans are costing the Government significant sums in order to protect legitimate persons who receive support under the programme. The latest annual report of the Auditor General shows irregularities in Manchester which caused more than 700 thousand dollars being paid to illegitimate persons. Dishonest employees have been linked to the irregularities. They have since been dismissed. Project Director of PATH, Dunstan Bryan, explains that Jamaicans constantly try to beat the system, so the Social Security Ministry has to spend heavily on a verification process. Mr. Bryan argues that while he cannot give assurances, he feels the programme is now more secure with the implementation of new measures:
