Antigua's outgoing Governor General, Dame Louise Lake Tack, accused the Gaston Browne government on Tuesday of lying to the country regarding her removal from office.
Dame Louise will be replaced today by Dr. Rodney Williams, a former legislator, as the Head of State, two months after the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party returned to power.
Dame Louise’s exit from office comes after weeks of Government-led talks with Buckingham Palace to make a case for her replacement.
Dame Louise was appointed the first female Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda in 2007, under the Baldwin Spencer-led United Progressive Party (UPP) government.
Her swearing-in ceremony was boycotted by then-opposition Antigua Labour Party legislators, on the ground that she was too deeply political to serve as Head of State.
