Trinidad & Tobago's Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, who openly supported Sir Ronald Sanders for the post of Commonwealth Secretary-General, on Sunday congratulated Baroness Patricia Scotland who secured the post.
Baroness Scotland, the Dominica-born candidate, is the sixth Commonwealth Secretary-General, and is the first woman to hold the post. She replaces Kamalesh Sharma of India.
Antiguan Sanders had the backing of eight other Caricom countries.
The selection of the new Secretary-General took place on Friday during the 24th biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta.
