Spain pledges long-term support for the Caribbean

Spain has reiterated its commitment to help in the socio-economic development of  the Caribbean, insisting that it is not a short-term partner.

This commitment was given by Prime Minister Mariano Rojoy of Spain on Wednesday, at the CARICOM Heads of  Government meeting in Antigua.

Prime Minister Mariano Rojoy told CARICOM leaders that his country’s ties with the Caribbean have always been intense and will be maintained. He noted that Spain has a strong diplomatic presence in the region.

Spanish business ties with the region have strengthened considerably over the last decade, with major hotel investments in Jamaica, in particular, among the English speaking Caribbean countries, in addition to its longstanding relationship with its former colonies in the region.
