A wide-open affair appears to be in the making for Saturday's 44th running of the 1000 Guineas for native-bred 3 year old fillies over a mile, the first classic of the 2018 season at Caymanas Park. The vastly-improved Honey Ryda with “big race daddy” Shane Ellis aboard for trainer Richard Azan, has the distinction of beating colts this season and has been made the 5-2 ante post favourite.
Thornbird Stakes winner Disability Charm is next in the forecast odds at 3-1 with jockey Robert Halledeen for trainer Patrick "Wacky" Lynch. Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta will send out the trio of Band of Gold with leading jockey Anthony Thomas; Miss Formality with 6-time champion jockey Omar Walker and Brandy to be partnered by Orlando Foster.
The Anthony "baba" Nunes pair of Fayrouz and Nadesheco along with Gary Subratie's My Sister are also expected to figure prominently in the 13-horse field. The event carries a purse of $3.5 million. Post time for the 11 race card is 11:40 am with TVJ SN and Hitz 92 FM having live coverage of all races.
