2016 champion 2 year old makes seasonal debut at Caymanas Park

The champion 2 year old from 2016 Sotomayor will make his belated seasonal debut on the Ash Wednesday midweek programme at Caymanas Park.

The 3 year old grey colt who pulled out of his first race for this year on February 18, because of a slight hoof problem, will take on older horses when he faces 15 rivals in the feature Ash Wednesday Trophy for Overnight Allowance runners over 6-and-a-half furlongs. Apprentice Linton Steadman will partner Sotomayor who is offering 5-2 in the morning line odds.

Last year's classic campaigner Chase The Great from the stables of Dwight Chen, is the 8-5 morning-line favourite with former champion jockey Wesley Henry aboard.

Meanwhile, another 3 year old whom much is expected from, Fearless Samurai from the barn of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, will also take on older horses when he races in the restricted stakes contest over 5-and-a-half furlongs. Champion jockey Omar Walker will have the ride.

First post is 1:20 pm with live coverage on TVJ Sports Network and Hitz 92 FM.
