American Pharoah returns with crushing win in Haskell Stakes

American Pharoah,  the exciting 3-year-old colt who has revitalised horseracing by winning the American Triple Crown - the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years -  returned to racing after 27 days on Sunday and scored an incomparable victory in the Grade 1 William B. Haskell Stakes over 9 furlongs with purse money of US$1.75 million.

The race was run at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey.

American Pharoah,  tracked the 21-1 leader "Competitive Edge" for six of the nine furlong event, and took over the lead leaving the 3/8ths pole with a surge on the outside of 'Competitive Edge." After that, the colt's jockey Victor Espinosa quickly put the horse under wraps and returned to cruise control, and he won as he liked without a crack of the  whip and a common canter in 1 min 47.4, the 10th time under 1 min 48 secs for the event, considering the horse was eased down with 1 1/2 furlongs to go.

The other starters were Upstart at 13-1, Mr. Jordan 37-1, Keen Ice 27-1, Top Clearance 70-1 and Don'tbetwithbruno at 85-1.

American Pharoah  is trained by Bob Baffert who saddled a record 8th winner of the Haskell, while the colt is owned by Egyptian American Ahmed Zayat, who still owns the racing rights of the Triple Crown winner, but sold his breeding rights before the Kentucky Derby.

His next race comes in late August or early September. His last race is expected to be the Breeders' Cup Classic in October.
