American wins emotion filled Boston Marathon

Meb Keflezighi became the first American man since 1983 to win the Boston marathon, while Kenya's Rita Jeptoo won her second women's title in a row and third overall.

The 38 year old, Keflezighi, crossed the line in a personal best 2 hours 08 minutes and 31 seconds.

He finished ahead of the Kenyan pair of Wilson Chebet who clocked 2:08:48 and  Frankline Chepkwony 2:08:50.

The 33 year old Kenyan, Jeptoo, became the fastest woman in Boston marathon history clocking 2hrs 18 mins 57secs for a 2nd straight title.

She beat the old course record of 2 hours 20 mins 43 secs set in 2002.

The Ethiopian pair of Buzunesh Deba, with a personal best   2hrs:19:59secs, and Mare Dibaba 2hrs:20:35secs were second and third respectively.

Thousands of people took the streets of Boston to commemorate the memory of those killed and the hundreds maimed following what became known as the "Boston Marathon Bombings," when several bombs were set off near the finish line of the 2013 edition of the world famous event.

Emotions were running high for this year's marathon.

For an American to win it, seemed poetic justice.

Indeed, Boston is strong !
