Atkinson gets bronze medal at California meet

Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson turned in a bronze medal winning performance in the 100m breaststroke on Thursday at the 2019 Clovis Pro Swim Series meet in California as she continues her preparation for this summer's World Championships in Gwangju, Korea. Atkinson, the 2015 World Championships bronze medallist, completed the first 50 metres in  31.82 seconds before touching the wall in a season’s best time of 1 minute, 08.00 seconds.

Canadian Olympian Sydney Pickrem won gold in a career best 1 minute, 07.20 ahead of Mexico's 2018 CAC silver medallist Melissa Rodriquez of Mexico in a new national record time of 1 minute, 07.32. Atkinson's best performance in this event at the World Championships is a bronze at the 2015 Kazan Championships in a time of 1:06.42.
