Bahamian Strachan to miss World championships due to injury

A left muscle strain which prevented Bahamian sprinter Anthonique Strachan from completing the final of the women’s 200 metres at the 17th Pan American Games last week,  will also force her to skip the Beijing World Championships scheduled to begin August 21 Jamaica time.

Strachan, the Bahamas National 200 metre champion, says she will need at least three weeks to regain her level of competitiveness after she sustained the injury in her groin area.

As a consequence,  her coach Henry Rolle has recommended that she bypass the Beijing event.

The 21-year-old athlete was contemplating running the 200m and the women’s 4 x 100m relay if they had qualified. Instead, strachan says she will have to wait and see how fast she can recover to run in a few meets in Europe after the world championship before she starts to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
