Bailey-Cole is the Commonwealth 100m champion!

Kemar Bailey-Cole recovered from a poor start to catch and pass the field after 70 metres to win his first individual international gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old produced a late surge in the last 30 metres to go past Britain’s Adam Gemili to land Jamaica first gold on the track with a season best 10.00 seconds. Gemili took silver in 10.10 seconds, while National champion Nickel Ashmeade finished with 10.12secs for bronze.

Jamaica’s medal tally in Glasgow, Scotland now stands at seven, comprising one gold, three silver and three Bronze.

Earlier, Veronica Campbell-Brown clocked 11.03 for silver, while Kerron Stewart took the bronze in 11.07 in the women’s 100m won by Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare in a championship record of 10.85 secs.

O’Dayne Richard won the Shot Put in a championship and national record of 21.61 metres in the field.

Alia Atkinson previously won silver and bronze from the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events.
