Baptiste to resume running soon

By Kayon Raynor

The 2011 World 100m bronze medallist, Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad & Tobago, will be running a few races indoors after being cleared by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

That's the word from her Guyanese  manager, Cubie Seegobin, who also manages Jamaican Olympic medallists Yohan Blake and Warren Weir.

Seegobin told RJR Sports that Baptiste "will be running some 'low key' meets this indoor season in preparation for her outdoor season".

A press statement from Trinidad & Tobago's National Association of Athletics Administrations had earlier confirmed that the case of Baptiste had been resolved at the Switzerland-based court.

But it stated that no details would be forthcoming as per confidentiality provisions applicable to the proceedings before CAS.

Chris Turner, IAAF spokesman, also declined to provide any details
regarding the case of the Trinidad & Tobago sprinter, when contacted by RJR Sports on Friday.

"No comment at the moment," was Turner's response.

Baptiste is a long-time training partner of 2007 American sprint double gold medallist, Tyson Gay, who served a drug ban.

But, while Gay was allowed to serve a one year suspension, having cooperated with to the investigation of United States Anti-doping Agency  (USADA), the IAAF appealed the decision of the Trinidad & Tobago Association to lift Baptiste’s ban last August.
