Binnie feeling financial fallout from cancelled squash tournaments

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Simon Preston

The suspension of the World Squash Association's Tour over the next three months due to the global spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus has dealt an economic blow to Jamaica's and the Caribbean's number one squash player Chris Binnie. Since recovering from a calf injury in 2019, Binnie has been in a purple patch of form, copping the Caribbean Championship, national title and the Atlanta Open on the professional circuit.

But the 31 year old will be off the court, given that the World Squash Association tour has been suspended until June. This means the 9-time Caribbean champion Binnie will miss earnings from six events. The world number 76th ranked player's training has also been impacted. Given airport closure Binnie is now stuck in Bermuda until April, where he was preparing for the now cancelled Bermuda Open.
