Blake lands sprint double at Senior Championships

Yohan Blake completed the men’s sprint double at the JAAA Supreme Ventures Senior National Championships on Sunday’s final day at the National Stadium.

Blake who captured the 100m on Friday night, came back two days later to cop the 200m in 20.29 seconds. He finished ahead of Nickel Ashmeade 20.45 seconds and Julian Forte 20.45.

2012 Olympics bronze medallist and 2013 World Championships silver medallist Warren Weir had to settle for fourth in 20.50 seconds.

The women’s equivalent was won by Simone Facey in 22.65 seconds over Veronica Campbell-Brown 22.80 seconds and Khali Davis-White 22.94 seconds. Defending champion Elaine Thompson and former champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce did not show for the final.

Meanwhile, Javon Francis retained the men’s 400m crown after landing his pet event in 44.95 seconds over Fitzroy Dunkley 45.35 and Nathon Allen 45.52 seconds.

The women’s equivalent was won by Commonwealth champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson in 50.04 seconds over defending champion Christine Day 50.29 and Shericka Jackson 50.29. Veteran campaigner Novlene Williams-Mills was fourth in 50.64 seconds.

Meanwhile, Megan Simmonds posted a personal best 12.79 seconds to land the women’s sprint hurdles where reigning world champion Danielle Williams experienced technical problems at the midway stage of the event and came home in last position.

In the field, World Championship bronze medallist O’Dayne Richards threw 20.82 metres to retain the men’s shot put crown while Kimberly Williams cut the sand at 14.66 metres to retain the women’s triple jump title.
