Bolt: Plans to change to Olympic athletes programme Ridiculous.

By Kayon Raynor

Usain Bolt, the two-time Olympic 200m champion, says suggestions that the International Olympic Committee could cut the 200m and four other events from the athletics on the Olympic programme is “ridiculous" and must not be tolerated.

“Normally I’m not a controversial person, but I think that’s just stupid. I think personally track and field is the highlight of the Olympics every edition, that’s not even a question,” Bolt told RJR Sports on Wednesday.

Bolt’s comments follow reports that five key events, including 200m, 10,000, triple jump, shot putt are in jeopardy as the IOC pushes for the athletics program to be tightened.

“So when you’re going to try to take events away from the track and field event, it is just ridiculous and I don’t think the IAAF should stand for that at all because that is just ridiculous,” added Bolt, who holds the 100m and 200m world record.

On Tuesday, track and field’s governing body, the IAAF noted that "no credence whatsoever should be given to recent unfounded speculation regarding possible changes to athletics’ programme within the Olympic Games".

The IAAF further stated that “while the Olympic agenda 2020 recommendations were passed at last week's session, no details or specific proposals have yet been made by the IOC as to how they will be implemented."
