Bolt wins 100m in modest 10.12 secs

Jamaica's global sprinting superstar Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell Brown won their 100 metre races comfortably at the Mano-a-Mano challenge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Bolt was targeting a sub-10 second clocking, but was timed in 10.12 secs in beating American Ryan Bailey 10.24 secs, Brazilian sprinter Jose Moreira  10.51 and Churandy Martina 10.53 secs  of the Netherlands.

His time ranks as the third fastest by a Jamaican, with Nickel Ashmeade's 10.04 secs set in Florida on Saturday being the national leader so far.

Campbell-Brown is the second fastest Jamaican woman over 100 metres so far this season with her winning time of 11.04 seconds.

She beat American Carmelita Jeter 11.19 and fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewart 11.30 secs.

In the meantime, Bolt, the six-time Olympic gold medallist, says he is hoping to compete for Jamaica in both the 4x100 and 4x200 metre relays at next month's IAAF World relays in The Bahamas.

The world relays will be Bolt's next assignment, and the 28-year-old World 100 and 200 metre record holder says he wants to run both sprint relays in the Bahamas.

Although revealing that he hadn't discussed it with his coach Glen Mills as yet, he noted that from a personal standpoint he wanted to run both relays in order to get enough races under his belt in his quest to get sharp ahead of the world championships in Beijing, China, this summer.
