Calabar secures national basketball double

Calabar High School are still the national Under-19 schoolboy basketball champions after  defeating St Catherine High 68-55 at the GC Foster College.

Calabar took charge of the contest quickly to post a big 23-13 first quarter lead and that would widen at the half time break with Calabar out front 43-29. St Catherine came out in the second half to stem the flow, scoring 26 goals to Calabar's 25.

Antonio Spence and Jevaughn Taylor each scored 24 points for Calabar while Daniel Jones had 13 for St Catherine.

Calabar took the double as they were also crowned Under-16 champions following their 51-44 victory over Jamaica College in a repeat of the Southern Conference final.

It was see saw action throughout the first half as Calabar had 15 goals to JC's 8 in the first quarter before JC returned to score 13-8 in the second.

Up by two goals going into the third quarter, Calabar widen the gap with a 19-10 scoreline and despite JC scoring 13- 9 in the fourth quarter, the match was long over.

Acheim Brown scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 27 rebounds for Calabar while Jordan Brandon was JC's leading player with 12 points.
