"Callaloo" blooms at Golden Gate Fields

Voice of former Jamaican champion jockey Wesley "Callaloo" Henry

Former Jamaican champion jockey Wesley "Callaloo" Henry has made a promising start to his latest stint on the North American circuit. Henry who began riding at Golden Gate Fields in California on January 21, has so far ridden 4 winners from 20 mounts with three second place finishes and one third place finish. He had a double last weekend, winning aboard the 3-1 shot Chatterman over 6 furlongs on the all-weather track on Saturday before scoring aboard the 21-1 outsider Ronsky's Hope also over 6 furlongs on Sunday.

Henry who turned 44 yesterday, is looking to make the best of this opportunity. “A lot of trainer’s see me now winning and also when I’m working horses in the mornings and tell me that they are going to put me on some nice horses,” said Henry. Henry says he has also adjusted well to the all-weather track at Golden Gate Fields.

“This track is a different track; Jamaica is dirt. Here is a synthetic track so you have so save your horse and then ride them in the stretch,” he added.
