Chase leads Windies to victory over Afghanistan

Roston Chase fell four runs short of his maiden One Day International (ODI) century as the West Indies cruised to a 7 wicket win over Afgahnistan to take a 1-0 lead in their three game series in Lucknow. Set 195 runs for victory, the Windies lost Evin Lewis for 7 and Shimron Hetmyer for 3 with the score on 25-2. Chase 94 and Shai Hope 77 not out, added 163 for the third wicket as the West Indies reached victory at 197-3.

Earlier, Afghanistan recovered from 15-2 with Rahmat Shah 61 and Ikram Alikhil 58, leading the way. However, a strong response from the Caribbean bowlers saw the hosts losing their last four  wickets for three runs, to be all out for 194 in 45.2 overs.

Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd and Chase all ended with two wickets. The second ODI will be played on Saturday at the same venue starting at 3:30 am Jamaica time.
