Chennai Super Kings through to IPL final

It will be Chennai Super Kings versus Mumbai Indians in Sunday's Indian Premier League T20 final.

In the second play-off game in Ranchi on Friday, The Super Kings defeated Chris Gayle's Royal Challengers Bangalore by 3-wickets with 1 ball to spare.

In a tight low scoring match, the Royal Challengers, 139-8 off 20-overs, did not challenge the scorers on Friday, as the "Big Hurt" Chris Gayle could not shift gears. He topscored with 41 off 43 balls with 2x4s and 3x6s, but was never allowed to cut loose as is the norm.

This retarded the Challengers target, as only Denesh Karthik 28 and Sarfaraz Khan 31 got among the slow pace of runs. Ashish Nehra also made things difficult with numbing fast bowling to blunt the Challengers vaunted batting. Nehra finished with 3-28 to win the man of the match award.

But the Super Kings were challenged in what appeared to be an easy target, 140 to win.

They got a solid platform though from opener Mike Hussey who topscored with 56 (46 balls, 3x4s, 2x6s) , while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni 26 helped push things along towards the end. It was the 6th IPL final for the Super Kings who reached 140-7 with one ball to spare as the Challengers fought to the end. Yuzvendra Chahal took 2-28.

Sunday's final takes place at the 100,000 seat Kolkata stadium. West Indians Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard will represent the Mumbai Indians, while Dwayne Bravo will play for Chennai Super Kings.
