CPL action shifts to Jamaica today

Mickey Arthur, speaking at a press conference in Kingston on Wednesday

Local cricket fans will get their first taste of this season's Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Thursday, as the Jamaica Tallawahs meet the Antigua Hawksbills at Sabina Park, starting at 2pm.

The defending champions need to win all three home games to get a direct passage to the final and coach Mickey Arthur is promising that they will take the Hawksbills as serious threat, despite their winless run so far.

“We strive to get better every time we go out there and play,” Arthur said at a press conference in Kingston on Wednesday.

While not being able to say that the coveted “perfect performance” will be on Thursday, “or somewhere down the line,” the coach said the team was always looking to get better. He described the effort of the players so far, however, as “brilliant.”

Of their four matches so far, the Jamaica Tallawahs (defending champions in the tournament) have won three and narrowly lost to Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel in their last encounter.

TVJ Sports Network will have live coverage of the match, starting at 2pm, with the day's second encounter, between Barbados Tridents and host St. Lucia Zouks, set for 7pm.
