Cricket West Indies has confirmed an RJR Sports report that Richard Pybus has been appointed interim head coach of the Windies men's team with immediate effect. According to the release, Pybus will lead the technical team for the upcoming visit of England, the triangular series in Ireland, the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the visit of India in July and August.
The Englishman, who was the director of the high performance program, will replace interim coach Nic Pothas. Pybus takes the role with the Windies, having coached Pakistan and Bangladesh in the past. He was consultant coach to Pakistan during the 1999 Cricket World Cup when they progressed to the final.
His last stint with an international team was with Bangladesh. However, it lasted only five months after a disagreement over the terms of his contract in 2012. Last year, Pybus was also shortlisted and interviewed for the role of India coach but was unsuccessful.
