Dacres breaks national discus record again

Former World Youth and World Junior champion Federick Dacres continued his early season record breaking form by erasing the national discus throw record for the second time in two weeks.

Competing at Saturday’s King of the Ring throws meet at Excelsior, where he also broke the national record two weeks ago, Dacres threw a new mark of 68.88 meters.

The 22 year old broke the 68.67 meters he threw at the Big Shot Invitational meet to also set a new world leading mark

But Dacres will have to wait a little before the record  is officially attached to his name as it will have to remeasured and the implement weighed and ratified by athletics  local governing body the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA). The JAAA will also verify if the officials who measured the throw are certified.

Meanwhile, former national champion Traves Smikle with 61.98 meters and Chad Wright 58.50 meters were second and third respectively.

In other highlights of the meet, former Rusea’s High athlete Rojae Stona, now at St Jago, threw 57.30 meters to win the class 1 boys discus ahead of Phillip Barrett of Excelsior 51.45 and Kyle Mitchell of Calabar.

And the class 1 girls equivalent was won by ‘Champs’ gold medal favourite Fiona Richards of Edwin Allen who threw 51.44 meters.
