Denzil Miller Junior made redundant as Racing Secretary

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Denise Walters

Denzil Miller Junior, the long-standing Racing Secretary at Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), the sole promoters of local horse racing, has had his post made redundant. RJR Sports understands that Miller was informed of the decision to make his post redundant by SVREL Chairman Michael Bernard on Monday morning. Bernard told Miller that the move was part of the ongoing restructuring exercise within the company. Miller had been Racing Secretary for over 25 years.

He also held the position with previous promoters Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) and Racing Promotions Limited (RPL). During his time at Caymanas Park, Miller also held several other positions including Clerk of the Course, Handicapper and Chairman of the Programmes Committee.

Meanwhile, Miller declined comment when RJR Sports spoke with him by phone on Monday, and he directed our queries to the chairman of the SVREL board Michael Bernard and Chief Operating Officer Brando Hayden.

Director of Racing Chris Armond and former chairman of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Anthony Shoucair who joined the SVREL team as General Manager for Racing Operations in January, will now share the major responsibilities in the Racing Office.
