Edwin Allen girls and St Jago boys retain titles at Central Champs

St Jago and Edwin Allen High retained their respective titles as the two day Central Athletics Championships, the 4th stop in the Digicel Grand Prix Series culminated at GC Foster College on Wednesday. St Jago were dominant on the boys side, winning by over 150 points after amassing 346.5 points.

Edwin Allen 152, Holmwood Technical 131, Clarendon College 95 and Manchester High 87,  rounded out the top five. On the girls’ side, Edwin Allen once again turned back all challengers to retain their title, totalling 358.5 points to win ahead of Hydel  308, St Jago 201 and Vere Technical 167, completing the top five.
 
Among the highlights on the final day was Michae Harriott of Holmwood Technical who completed the class one girls sprint double including winning the 200 meters in a record 23.56 seconds. Harriott had clocked 11.73 seconds to win the 100 meters, just missing out on the record of 11.72 set by Rene Medley of Vere Technical last year.   
 
World Under-18 100m bronze medallist Kevona Davis of Edwin Allen, also sped to a record 23.61 seconds to win the class two girls 200 meters.

On the boys’ side, Richard Nelson of Clarendon College took the class three boys sprint double, clocking a record 23.11 for the 200 meters and 11.73 to win the 100 meters.
