Edwin Allen High in World Leading Run

A World Leading run of 43.95 secs by Edwin Allen High school's 4 x 100 metre girls' relay team was one of the highlights at the 7th Utech Athletics Classic at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Edwin Allen finished second in the senior event won by MVP in 43.31. However, it was Edwin Allen who stole the show, as their time of 43.95 secs was the first sub-44 second time by a girls' high school team anywhere in the world. Edwin Allen had established the record of 44.17 secs at Boys' and Girls' Championships on March 29, 2014.

Calabar High set a world leading 7-mins 33.39 secs for the boys' 4 x 800 metre relay, with Rajay Hamilton and Jorel Belafonte being pivotal on that team.

Ristananna Tracey's world leading 55.64 seconds also got among the headlines in the women's 400 metre hurdles where she broke Kaliese Spencer's mark of 56.32 secs. Jeneive Russelll was second in 57.27 secs and Rhonda Whyte of GC Foster College third in 59.23 secs.

Calabar High boys' 4 x 100 metre relay team smashed the record of 40.40 secs set by Bridgeport high in 2011, clocking 40.06 on Saturday. KC finished second inside the old record with 40.26 secs.

Racers Men clocked 38.41 for a new mark in the 4 x 100 metre relay; MVP's time of 43.31 also sets a new mark for the women 4 x 100 metre; Holmwood Technical Girls' recorded 3mins 36.89 for a new mark in the 4 x 400 metre relay; and Carrie Russell stopped the clock in 11.19 in the women's 100 metres.

Six records were broken, one equalled and one established.
