Edwin Allen highlight Jamaican performances on opening day at Penns

Edwin Allen's 4x100m relay team posted the second fastest time in the history of the Penn Relays as the 125th running of the relay carnival got underway on Thursday morning in Philadelphia. The team of Brandy Hall, Tina Clayton, Fredricka McKenzie and Tia Clayton posted 44.21 seconds in qualifying for Friday's final. The time is only bettered by the 43.96 seconds done in 2017 by the Edwin Allen team of Kasheika Cameron, Kevona Davis, Shellece Clarke and Patrice Moody.

Holmwood Technical, Hydel, St Jago, Excelsior, St Catherine and Vere Technical are also through to the 4x100m final. Meanwhile, six high school girls went under 60 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, led by Lashanna Graham of Edwin Allen in 58.02 seconds and Shaqueena Foote who won section three in 59.09 sec to place 6th overall.

Former Edwin Allen standout Shannon Kalawan representing St Augustine's, won the college women 400m hurdles in 57.37 seconds. The Edwin Allen quartet of Jessica McLean, Kayan Green, Abigail Pinnock and Rushana Dwyer, combined to post 9 minutes, 02.43 seconds in qualifying for Friday's final in the girls 4x 800m relay.

Hydel 3:39.98 won their 4X00 metre heat ahead of St Jago 3:49.83; Holmwood Technical 3:41.06 holding off Spaulding 3:44.54 along with Petersfield 3:46.71 with Vere second in 3:51.30. The Jamaican boys teams will bow into action on Friday’s second day.
