Edwin Allen star breaks 16 year old record at 'Champs' 2018

Kingston College and champions Edwin Allen are the respective boys and girls  leaders entering Friday’s 4th and penultimate day of the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium. KC, the 31 time champions are on 69 points and are followed by defending champions Calabar on 64, Jamaica College 36, St Jago 18, Wolmer’s 17 and Petersfield with 16 points, rounding out the top six.

Edwin Allen, hunting a 5th straight title and 6th overall, lead the  girls standings with 45 points. They are followed by Hdyel 32, Holmwood Technical 29, Excelsior 22,  Rusea’s 21 and Vere Technical 16 points, rounding out the top six so far. 

Three records were broken on day three including the impressive 16 year old Kevona Davis of Edwin Allen who broke Anneisha McLaughlin's 16 year old class two 200m record of 23.12 seconds to set a new mark off 22.92.

The other two record breakers on the day were Arymanya Rodgers of KC who set a new mark of 5 minutes, 49.46 seconds to win the boys 2000 metres steeplechase open and Shante Foreman of Excelsior who leapt to a new record of 1.80 meters to win the class 3 girls high jump. A total of 4 records have been broken so far at the championships.

Meanwhile, 25 finals will be contested on Friday including the 100 metres, the 1500 metres and the 400 metres hurdles for boys and girls. Action gets underway at 8:30 on Friday morning with the 70 metres hurdles for class 4 girls and the triple jump preliminaries for class 2 boys.
