A commanding century from captain Raewin Senior has helped Excelsior put one hand on the ISSA Grace Shield Under-19 cricket trophy heading into Thursday last day of the final against defending champions Innswood at the Melbourne Oval. At close on Wednesday, Innswood were 9-1 chasing an improbable 546 for victory.
Gimarly McPherson on 6 and Alex Love who is yet to score, were the batsmen at the crease. Earlier, resuming on 91-9, in reply to Excelsior's first innings 285, Innswood could only add 28 runs to their total before being dismissed for 119. Kevin Peterson who resumed on 3 went on to make a top score of 22 as Brandon English grabbed 4-12 while Kirk McKenzie and Duke Reid picked up 2 wickets each.
Excelsior then piled up a massive 379 all out as Senior smashed 12 fours and 8 sixes on his way to a top score of 152 off 140 deliveries. He got support from Ackeem Malcolm who made 75 and Kirk McKenzie and Brandon English who made 45 and 44 respectively. Dwayne Sinclair was the pick of the Innswood bowlers with 3-51 with 2 wickets apiece for captain Carlos Brown and Peterson.
