Fitness to determine is Russell plays in T20 Series against India

Fitness will determine whether or not Jamaican Andre Russell will feature in the West Indies Twenty20 Series against India as the all-rounder was named in the squad on Monday. Russell left the recent ICC World Cup early and did operation on his knee after the injury limited his role at the 50 over tournament.

In the meantime, four other Jamaicans were named along with Trinidadians Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard. Narine last played in a T20 international for West Indies against England almost two years ago in Durham and all-rounder Pollard appeared last November on the tour of India.

John Campbell has also earned a maiden call-up, having made his ODI and test debut earlier this year. Guyanese wicketkeeper/batsman Anthony Bramble is the other first-time call-up. The other Jamaicans in the squad are Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas and Rovman Powell. The 14-man squad is only for the first two matches on August 3 and 4 at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

The selection panel has the opportunity to make changes to the squad before the third T20 International on August 6 at the Guyana National Stadium.

The full squad reads: Captain  Carlos Brathwaite, Anthony Bramble, John Campbell, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Keemo Paul, Khary Pierre, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell and Oshane Thomas.
