Five players risk losing WICB central contract

Voice of WICB CEO Michael Muirhead

Jamaicans Marlon Samuels and Jerome Taylor are among five players in the West Indies World T20 15-man squad, who risk losing their central retainer contracts if they do not sign the player contracts by 2:00 pm Eastern Caribbean time on Sunday for next month's tournament in India.

That's the word from CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board, Michael Muirhead.

“They are obligated to play for us when called upon to do so…now what would happen (if they don’t), they would be in breach of their retainer contracts, so we will see on February 14 what the result is but I really and truly expect them to come around and see the wisdom in going forward with the contract,” Muirhead told HITZ 92 FM’s ‘Sports Grill’ on Tuesday.

The other three players, who risk losing their WICB central contracts are test and one day skipper Jason Holder, Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin.

The WICB central contracts range from US $140,000 thousand for ‘A’ category, $120,000 for ‘B’ category and $100,000 for the ‘C’ category.
