Four Jamaicans in Windies T20 squad to face Afghanistan

The West Indies selectors have named a strong squad including four Jamaicans for the three match Twenty20 series against Afghanistan in June.

Marlon Samuels, Rovman Powell, Jerome Taylor and Chadwick Walton are the Jamaicans named to the 13-man unit.

Carlos Brathwaite will again captain the side but test and One Day International skipper Jason Holder has been rested according to a WICB release. Seasoned campaigners Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Lendll Simmons and Samuel Badree have all been included. So too have rising talents Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed and Kesrick Williams. Guyanese fast bowler Ronsford Beaton is the only newcomer.

In the meantime, Barbadian Ashley Nurse will captain a President's X1 side to face the visitors in a warm-up game. Fast bowler Sheldon Cottrel is the only Jamaican in that squad.

Jonathan Carter, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, Nicholas Pooran and Devon Thomas are some of the notable names in the 12-man unit. The warm-up match will be contested on May 30, with the international games set for June 2, 3 and 5.

Afghanistan won their last T20 meeting against West Indies at the World T20 in 2016.
