'Frog' Holmes advances to Contender Series semi-finals in controversial fashion

Two time finalist Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes scored a controversial unanimous decision win over Canada's Larone ‘Jet’ Whyte to book the third semi-final spot in the Wray and Nephew Contender Boxing Series at the Chinese Benevolent Association Headquarters on Wednesday  night.

Even with the contest looking even, going the full five rounds and both boxers exchanging a barrage of body shots, all three judges scored the fight in favour of the Jamaican. Lawrence Neuville and Canada's Jim Monkelbaan both scored it 49-46, while Lindel Allen scored 50-45 all in favour of Holmes.

Holmes was reaching his fifth straight Contender Series semi-final. Nico Yeyo and Ricardo Salas will square off in the last quarter-final fight next week.
