'Frog' Holmes beats Cotroni to reach Contender Series semi-finals

Richard “Frog” Holmes has become the third semi-finalist in the 2017 Wray and Nephew Contender Series following his unanimous decision victory over Canadian Frank “The Hitman” Cotroni in the third quarter-final contest on Wednesday night at the Chinese Benevolent Association Headquarters.

Holmes dominated the first two rounds but appeared to have run out of steam after as Cotroni came on strongly in the later stages of the fight.

Judge Ransford Burton scored the fight 48-47; Canadian judge Jeremy Hayes had it 49-46 while Eoin Jardine scored it 49-46, all in favour of Holmes who has now joined Sakima Mullings and Phil Rose in the semi-finals.

Next Wednesday Jamaica’s Tsetsi “Lights Out” Davis will meet the number 2 ranked on the Canadian team, Ryan Young in the remaining quarter final contest.
