'Frog' Holmes to fight in Canada

2016 Wray and Nephew Contender Series finalist Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes leaves the island on Tuesday for a fight against Canadian boxer Cody Crowley on September 30. He will be accompanied by his trainer Carl Grant who said he has been keeping Holmes in the gym in case an opportunity presented itself.

Grant said Tyler Buxton who brought Team Canada to the Contender Series this year, was impressed with Holmes' in the competition and it was he that secured the fight as a result.

Holmes who trains at the Bruising Gym in Stony Hill, St Andrew, has been sparring with reigning Contender Series champion Sakima Mullings. Holmes is one of two boxers locally that have been contracted so far to fight in Canada.

The other is Devon Moncriffe whose fight is scheduled for October 14. Both fighters are set to earn larger purses than usually offered for locally-promoted fights.
