Gayle's possible ODI farewell ends in defeat

The West Indies went down by 6 wickets to India via Duckworth/Lewis Method in the third One Day International at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad to lose the three match series 2-0. Electing to bat, the West Indies posted 240-7 off 35 overs. Jamaica's Chris Gayle led the way for the Windies, smashing 72 off 41 overs including 8 fours and 5 sixes in what might have been his final ODI appearance.  

Gayle also shared in a 115 run opening stand with Evin Lewis who made 43while Nicholas Pooran weighed in with 30. Khaleel Ahmed took 3-68 and Mohammed Shami 2-50.

Captain, Man of the Match and Man of the Series Virat Kohli then spoiled Gayle's possible sendoff party as he smashed an unbeaten 106 off 97 balls to guide India to 246-4 off 34.5 overs in reply.

Kohli who was scoring back to back centuries,  also shared in a 120 run 4th wicket partnership with Shreyas Iyer who made 65. Fabian Allen took 2-40 for the Windies. The teams will now turn their attention to the test series beginning August 22 in Antigua.
