Grace Shield final delicately poised after first day

The final of the ISSA Grace Shield between Innswood High and Excelsior High is evenly poised after Tuesday’s first day’s play at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. At stumps, the 2016 champions Excelsior were 179-6 off 38 overs, in reply to Innswood's first innings knock of 223 all out. They require another 44 runs to take first innings points.

National Under-19 player Raewin Senior has led the scoring for the Mountain View Avenue-based school with 58 not out, consisting of 9 fours and a six. He had support from Kirk McKenzie 36 and Akeem Malcolm 20 against Jevour royal, who has so far taken 4-52. Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat, Innswood were dismissed for 223 inside 66 overs despite half centuries by Carlos Brown 76 and Mark James 57.

Najay Williams made 29 while West Indies Under-19 representative Royal could only muster 9 against Kirk McKenzie 5-66 and Raewin Senior 3-88. When play resumes on Wednesday's second day, Senior on 58, will be at the crease along with Danville Wollaston on 8.
