Holding backs players

As the disagreements continue between the West Indies players and the players’ association, WIPA, more past West Indies cricketers continue to give their opinions. The latest of whom is former fast bowler, Michael Holding.

Holding is on the side of the players.

“I arrived here in India before the first ODI and I heard what was going on and I also heard that they were complaining about the contract that they were given before they even played in the warm up game.

“And they were told by their WIPA representative not to sign it because there was still some negotiating going on and that he will try and address the problem. Nothing has been addressed, nothing has been taken care of, and the guys that are here have absolutely no idea what is going on. They have refused to meet with them, refused to discuss anything with them and they are just here playing because they know they have to play,” Holding lamented.

Holding was also critical of his fellow Jamaican, WIPA President and CEO, Wavell Hinds.

“I am a little bit disappointed with Wavell Hinds, because when he was a player he knew the struggles that the players went through, he knew that the players needed representation.

“And now that he is the President and CEO of the players’ association, he has now taken the decision to sign the MOU without the guys who are greatly affected, the ones who are mostly affected even knowing what the MOU states. So I think that was really pretty ordinary from Wavell Hinds," Holding continued.
