Sergeon walks again in miracle recovery

Jamaica’s top female jockey Georgina Sergeon is walking again.

in a story of courage and determination, the 21-year-old jockey has even surprised her doctors in her recovery from the horrific spill on january 21 .

 

On January 21, Sergeon was astride tricky train coming off the home turn when the spill occurred.

Speaking on Wednesday, Sergeon revealed her serious injuries occurred when the trailing horse accidentally kicked her in the lower back, and stepped on her right thigh.

Her spinal column broken in two places, her lower back broken and torn tissues in her right thigh.  It took Dr. Peter Charles 8-hours from 10pm January 24 through to 6am January 25 to repair the damage with 2 rods and 7 screws in her back.  This

after having no movement from her chest down following the spill Georgina moved her legs shortly after surgery. Then her first step on Saturday night February 4.

Her medical team was surprised at the rate of improvement, and she made further progress at the rehabilitation centre
