Hydel High won their first ever schoolboy football title as they defeated Excelsior 2-0 to take the ISSA Walker Cup knockout crown at the Stadium East field on Wednesday. The teams went into the halftime break goalless and may have had the penalty shootout in the back of their minds before Fabiki Farquharson gave Hydel the lead in the 74th minute.
But Excelsior pressed hard and would have felt unlucky not to find the equalizer hitting the upright late in regulation time. Excelsior's relentless push for an equalizer created an opening on the counter for Hydel and sustitute Walker duly obliged, scoring the second in stoppage time to kill off the contest and ensure the trophy headed to Hydel for the first time.
Meanwhile, four schools will be looking to book their spots into the final of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup on Thursday at the Juici Complex. The opening game will see Port Antonio facing Petersfield starting at 1:00 pm. Petersfield had beaten St James High 4-0 in the quarter-finals while Port Antonio got by Glenmuir 1-0 to advance to this stage of the campaign.
In the featured match, former champions Lennon will battle Charlemont at 3:00. Lennon had trounced Old Harbour 5-0 while Charlemont defeated Maggoty 4-0 in the quarter-finals.
