INF renews bid for netball to join Olympic sports

Voice of INF Chief Executive Officer Clare Briegal

Renewing their bid to become an Olympic sport will be on the agenda when the International Netball Federation (INF) hosts its board meeting in Jamaica this weekend. The meeting started on Friday  and runs until Sunday.

Despite failed attempts for inclusion in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, INF Chief Executive Officer Clare Briegal says the governing body is still pursuing its dream goal.

“We have the position of being a recognized sport so have dialogue going with the IOC but it takes more than dialogue to actually become a part of the Olympic Games. It’s certainly an ambition of the International Netball Federation but we need to make sure that the sport is ready for that when that happens so there the right level of competitiveness across the world,” noted Briegal.
