IPL GM says country not ready to host global multi-sport event

Voice of IPL General Manager Major Desmon Brown

General Manager of the Independence Park Limited, Major Desmon Brown says the country is far from hosting a global multi-sport championship in the near future. Brown who was speaking on Sports Grill on Friday says there is a huge way to go in hosting a high level championship.

“As you know none of this can be done unless we do some major repairs to the Stadium but all countries in the world, sometimes it takes a game to get you going and when you have a deadline you have to meet,” said Major Brown.

Jamaica hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1966 but Brown says the country would be more equipped to deal with a one discipline championship in the short term. “The events that I think are within our ability are the single sports like World Relays where we have the officials and the equipment. We just need to improve our facility so it’s not beyond us,” he said.
