JAAA boss outlines plans for new term after being returned unopposed

Voice of re-elected JAAA president Dr Warren Blake

The targeting of Jamaican athletes by other countries and a stronger push towards the development of the sport will be the driving forces behind Dr Warren Blake's second full term in charge of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

The man who took over the reins of the JAAA in 2011, was on Tuesday night returned to the helm of Jamaica's track and field unopposed at the association's Annual General Meeting. His return was confirmed as 79 of 80 voters decided he was the right man for the job.

“There are other measures that we can put in place because we intend to approach the diaspora to try and attract funding and sponsorship from that level as well. Early in the new year, the executive will meet and roll out some of our new plans and Jamaicans will hear about some of our plans to take track and field to the next level,” said Dr Blake.

Ian Forbes will serve as Dr Blake's second in command for the next four years with Lincoln Eatmon, Michael Frater and Vilma Charlton being the other vice presidents.

Noticeably absent is Dave Myrie who served as a first vice-president in Dr Blake’s last administration. Ludlow Watts remains treasurer and Garth Gayle honorary secretary with Marie Tavares continuing as his assistant. There is a new director of records with Leroy Cooke replacing Ewan Scott.

Scott has joined the management committee which comprises Michael Clarke, Gregory Hamilton, Juliet Parkes-Livermore, George Forbes, Maxine Brown, Dr Carl Bruce and Trevor ‘TC’ Campbell.
