Jaheel Hyde secures gold in 400M hurdles

Jamaica's Jaheel Hyde duly delivered on public expectations, winning gold in the 400M hurdles at the World Youth Championships in Eugene, Oregan on Friday evening.

Hyde went into the race as the favourite and justified that tag with a commanding performance, winning in a new personal best time of 49.3 seconds.

The confident Wolmerian, in his post-race interview, said he knew he was well placed to win, once he was unchallenged at the 200 metre mark, reasoning that, once he's ahead at that stage in a race, he is not likely to be beaten.

That was Jamaica's first gold medal of the Championships, Tyler Mason having taken silver in the 110M hurdles the night before.

The country secured a third medal, when Michael O'Hara placed third for the bronze medal in the 200M. He did it in a personal best time of 20.31 seconds in a fast race, in which the winner, American Trentavis Friday, achieving a time of 20.04.

Christoff Bryan just missed out on a medal in the high jump, placing fourth in a spirited performance.
