Jamaica capture three sprint relay finals at Carifta Games

A national youth record fell as Jamaica captured three of the four sprint relay gold medals to close out Sunday’s second day of the 46th Carifta Track and Field Championships in Curacao in style. The Under-18 boys produced a national youth best 39.96 seconds to storm to an impressive victory.

Micauli Everett, Tyreke Wilson, Xavier Nairne and Michael Stephens, were the athletes who achieved the impressive feat.

The rout continued through to the Under-20's as the girls team led by 100m silver medallist Aneka Brissett eased to 44.83 seconds for the win. The boys Under-20's with Christopher Taylor on the second leg, closed the show with a 40.10 seconds performance. Delano Dunkley, Ashanie Smith and 100m bronze medallist Jelani Walker were the other members of that team.

However, there was misfortune for the Under-18 girls who were disqualified for a lane violation on the third leg, having earlier won the event in a Carifta record of 44.35 seconds with  the team of Briana Williams, Kevona Davis, Brittany Anderson and Michae Harriott.

The competition ends on Monday with the 4x400m relays among the finals.
