Jamaica ends Doha World Championships with 12 medals

Jamaica won a silver and two bronze on Sunday’s final day of the 17th IAAF World Championships in Doha. It equalled the country's second highest tally from Beijing 2015, but the nation had to appeal after an initial disqualification of the women's 4x400 metres relay where they placed third.

The final day medal count started with 2015 champion Danielle Williams entering the 100m hurdles final as the world leader, but would be denied a second gold after a poor start. She had to settle for the bronze in 12.47 seconds behind winner Nia Alli of the United States in a personal; best 12.34 seconds and silver medasllist Kendra Harrisason also of the USA in 12.46 seconds.

The quartet of Anastasia Le-Roy, Tifanny James, Stephenie McPherson and Shericka Jackson posted 3 minutes, 22.37 to take bronze in the 4x400m. They were later disqaulified and then reinstated after an appeal..

The men's team with Akeem Bloomfield, Nathon Allen, Terry Thomas and Demish Gaye took silver in the men's equivalent in a season best 2 minutes, 57.90. It was Jamaica's  first medal since 2013 and 7 silver overall in the mile relay.

Meanwhile, Chanice Porter finished 8th in the final of the women's long jump after producing a best jump of 6.56m. Porter produced this jump on her third attempt. This was 0.01cm less that the jump she had from the preliminaries on Saturday. The 25 year old was Jamaica's first finalist in the women's long jump since 2005.
