Jamaica lose opening game at CONCACAF Women's U20 qualifiers

Jamaica's quest to make it to the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup suffered a big dent on Friday after they went down to a 4-0 defeat to Mexico In the day's opening Group ‘B’ game at the CONCACAF Under-20 qualifiers. Mexico took the lead in the 11th minute through Lizbeth Ovalle.

It became 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Katy Martinez struck and it got worse for the young Reggae Girls when Chyanne Dennis headed in an own goal in the 55th minute. And though the Jamaicans tried to claw themselves back into the game it was to no avail as Belen Cruz put the game out of reach in minute 79.

The Caribbean champions are seeking one of three spots to the FIFA Under 20 Women's World Cup in France, will face the United States on Sunday and Nicaragua on Tuesday. The United States won Friday’s other Group ‘B’ game, beating Nicaragua 2-0.
